Once received, store the herbs in the fridge. This is VERY important as herbs can perish easily in warm, humid conditions and can attract insects. You'll notice that some of the herbs such as the goji berries and black dates will be packed separately to the rest of the blends to further preserve their freshness as they can easily become moist if not stored well.

the herborium is passionate about the environment. We are not perfect but a conscious brand. We are always striving to reduce our waste and footprint where possible as well as continually to improve the way we do things. 

Herbal blends formulated and packed by the herborium are packed in a biodegradable NatureFlex cellophane bag made from cellulose produced from certified renewable wood pulp and sourced from FSC forests. Theses smart bags are certified home compostable within 8-12 weeks. Our stickers and cards are printed on 100% post-consumer recycled paper, printed locally by PrintTogether.

To ensure your order arrives safely when sending across Australia, we may use biodegradable foam peanuts that dissolve under water to protect your goods, or perfectly functional reused packaging we have received from our suppliers.

We encourage you to reuse your containers and jars to store the herbs you receive from the herborium. By ordering from the herborium, you agree to have us pack the goods the best way we see fit. 

To fully reap the benefits of Chinese herbs, using a clay or ceramic pot is preferred. If you have a cast iron or double-boiler these will also do well in extracting the nutrients from the herbs and ingredients. A slow-cooker will be great for convenience so you don't have to watch the fire.

All our blends come with a product card with a QR code. Just scan the code with your phone and it will take you to the recommended cooking instructions. 

The cotton muslin bag serves two purposes. 

1. To reduce the amount of plastic used to package herbal soups as seen frequently in commercial herbal blends. 

2. The cotton muslin bag also doubles up as a way to keep your herbs neat and tidy when you are cooking if you don't like your herbs floating around. Just give the bag a rinse before using. If you prefer to have the herbs floating in your herbal tonic soup, please repurpose the cotton muslin bag. They are also biodegradable!

Vegan - All our herbs are raw, natural plant-based products. You can choose cook a Vegan herbal tonic option with fresh and dried mushrooms, root vegetables, vegan meats, firm tofu, nuts, etc. Our cooking instructions include a Vegan option method. 

Peanut allergies - None of our blends have peanuts however is packaged onsite that may contain nut traces. 

Gluten free - All our blends are gluten-free.

Our servings are quite generous so any leftovers can be stores in the fridge and best consumed within 3-4 days. Like stews and casserole, we recommend leaving the soup overnight to further extract the nutrients and enhance the flavours from the beautiful herbs and aromatic ingredients for a richer tasting tonic. Alternatively, you can store in your freezer and consume within 3 months.

Children under the age of 5 generally do not need herbs as their bodies are not yet mature however they can be taken in moderation. Our herbal TONIC "balance" blend is the most gentle blend and would be most suitable.

We use raw, natural herbs in our herbal blends which have been balanced by our qualified and experienced TCM practitioner. There is an increasing number of modern research conducted on the herbs used in our blends and their potential healing benefits on the body. They have been formulated to be safe for the average healthy adult. If you would like herbal blends suited to your specific needs and body constitution, please consult your TCM practitioner. Our blends are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Australia has a strict set of standards for importation of Chinese herbs. All herbs used within the herborium are entered in the Australian Registered of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) and batch tested for consistency and quality to protect Australians. All our herbs are approved the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).

The majority of our herbs are sourced from where they originate from and where they thrive. A large proportion of herbs are from China with some herbs coming from Japan, Korea and America.  The farmers in these regions are specialised in cultivating the herbs for centuries. To ensure the herbs greatest effectiveness, how the herb is grown, harvested, processed and the soil and climate all play a pivotal role in producing the herbs medicinal properties.
